Proterra Catalyst electric bus logs 600 miles (960 km) on a single charge
Electric bus maker Proterra has unveiled the newest addition to its fleet: the Catalyst E2 series, which features energy storage capacity of 440-660 kWh. Last month an E2 series vehicle logged more than 600 miles on a single charge under test conditions.
The Catalyst E2 series’ nominal range of 194-350 miles makes it capable of serving the daily mileage needs of nearly every US mass transit route without recharging, according to Proterra. The high-mileage Catalyst E2 series joins the existing Catalyst FC and XR series vehicles, which are designed for circulator and intermediate-mileage routes, respectively.

Proterra’s e-buses are in service in cities around the US. Enjoying a flood of new orders, the company plans to double production at its South Carolina and California facilities in 2017.
“Proterra’s primary goal has always been to create a purpose-built, high-performance electric vehicle that can serve every single transit route in the US. Today, with the unveiling of the Catalyst E2 Series, that goal has been achieved,” said Ryan Popple, CEO of Proterra. “With the Catalyst E2 offering a no-compromise replacement for all fossil fuel buses, battery-electric vehicles have now broken down the final barrier to widespread market adoption.”
