VW To Partner With Ford on EV Manufacturing

Speaking in Washington D.C. yesterday, Volkswagen CEO Herbert Diess revealed he is negotiating with Ford to use its US factories for EV production as well as sharing its electric car platform with the American automaker.

Speculation among EV journalists is that the models built in North America would be the I.D. Crozz, the I.D. Buzz and the update of VW’s classic Microbus.

Other possibilities include pickup trucks, such as those VW has shown recently at auto shows in New York and currently sells worldwide.

Audi is also planning to sell electric cars in the U.S., including the e-tron SUV, which will be imported next year and several models based on Volkswagen’s MEB electric-car platform, which is designed to be more affordable.

“We need additional capacity here in the United States, we need an additional car plant for VW and Audi combined,” Diess said.
