“Maid of the Mist” Goes Electric

Niagara Falls iconic “Maid of the Mist” tour boats, which take tourists to the base of the famous waterfall, have begun the transition to an all electric fleet.

This month, the first two of the all-electric boats come into service, replacing diesel versions. The remainder of the six boat fleet will transition as new vessels arrive to be outfitted by lithium ion battery packs built by Swiss manufacturer ABB.

Using short seven minute charging sessions at the end of each trip through “Thunder Alley” the new electric boats will carry on a tourist business which has been in operation since 1846.
