This Week’s Coffee Mixer
If you’re reading this on Facebook, please click the link for the full update.
In accordance with requests by the BC government and Health Ministry to restrict non-essential gatherings during the Covid-19 Pandemic, the VEVC is cancelling our public engagements for the foreseeable future.
Whether it’s Fall in the air or just smoke…
… It’s time to get fully back to work promoting the adoption of electric vehicles. And we begin this week’s email with a request from Sustainable Saanich seeing input from all our EV friendly members (no matter municipality of residence) on their latest E-MOBILITY STRATEGY available here:
The Draft strategy aims to support rapid transition to electric vehicles and e-bikes in Saanich. It is based on extensive research on electric mobility, input from stakeholders and the public, and reflects the proposed actions based on the last round of public engagement in Spring of 2020, where many of you provided input.
We encourage you to complete the survey here:
Alternatively, you can email feedback to email@example.com until September 27th.
Your feedback will be used to finalize the Electric Mobility Strategy before it is presented to Saanich Council for approval later in 2020.
Meanwhile, as the inventory of EVs grows on the island — and ages — some drivers of the first generation of the Nissan Leaf are beginning to consider replacing their original battery packs.
The good news is that process is both available here and less costly than expected. Nissan dealerships in both Victoria and Duncan have confirmed such service is already available and we are given to understand other Nissan dealers both here and on the lower mainland can accomplish the process.
Alternatively, Leaf owners can contact Tom Sawyer (778-700-8088) whose local service business includes retrofitting Nissan Leaf batteries.
Other helpful resources:
Check out Battery Hookup who have great deals on Leaf batteries from time to time.
B&R Auto Wreckers in Washington / Oregon also have batteries which sell at around $2,500 US.
Simon Andre in Quebec have completed several 30kWh and 40kWh swaps with a software / dongle patch to handle communication.
Scott at Precision Auto also has experience with battery swaps and upgrades.
And you can find more info on battery pairing tools here:
Finally for this week, tomorrow’s Zoom chat promises to be a very special one. A couple of months ago, Kent Rathwell of Sun Country teased us with his new Carbon reduction strategy. Tomorrow he’ll finally reveal all the details.
In addition, Jen Grebeldinger of BC’s Community Energy Association will discuss her experiences promoting EVs in the Kootenays and Jim Hindson will reveal the winner of our Measurement Canada write-in campaign.
Plus lots more — as always. We hope you can join us via the Zoom link below:
