Condo Charging Just Got Easier

This morning the British Columbia Utilities Commission received approval from the Minister of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources to make electric vehicle charging service providers, who are not otherwise public utilities, as well as landlords and strata corporations, exempt from Part 3 of the Utilities Commission Act.

The exemption applies to landlords, strata corporations, private companies and parkade owners.

With this exemption, aforementioned landlords and strata councils, as well as others will not need BCUC approval to set rates for EV charging services in British Columbia. It is hoped that this move will incentivize providers to ensure rates are competitive, and may encourage wider participation in establishing EV infrastructure.
