Carmakers Cheat European Drivers Out of Billions

Sustainability website “Transport and Environment” this week reported that since the year 2000 automobile manufacturers have cheated European drivers out of 150 billion Euros ($227 Billion Canadian) for the additional fuel they burned due to widespread manipulation of fuel efficiency tests.

In 2017 alone, this gaming of the system not only cost drivers money but drove up carbon emissions by 264 Million tons, roughly the annual equivalent of emissions by the Netherlands.

The full report (based on Eurostat data) is available here along with a downloadable PDF on addressing the cheating problem.
