INVITATION
You are cordially invited to attend the official opening of Salt Spring's first public Level 2 Electric Vehicle Charging Station, located in the ArtSpring lower parking lot at Jackson and Mc Philips on Sunday August 11 at noon.

Salt Spring has been proactive in reducing its transportation carbon footprint. Evidence includes our successful and expanding bus system, multiplying bicycle and walking trails, and Car Stop signs around the island. Now we are officially launching Salt Spring's new Electric Vehicle Charging Station.

Salt Spring is ideally suited for electric vehicles (EVs) because of its small size and mild climate, and EVs reduce carbon pollution and improve local air quality. The EV Charging Station provides residents and visitors with a convenient, and free, way to top up a charge. It may also encourage people to go electric with their next vehicle purchase. Increased adoption of EVs is an important component of the Salt Spring Island Climate Action Plan.

The EV Charging Station is a community project involving numerous volunteers, the Earth Festival Society, ArtSpring, the Transition Salt Spring Electric Vehicle group, the SSI Climate Action Council, the SSI Transportation Commission, CRD, Islands Trust, and Mid Island Co-op. Island Electric and Energy Options got us hooked up and lit up (solar security light), respectively. A funding contribution from the BC Community Charging Infrastructure Fund was provided by the Fraser Basin Council.

The opening will be held in conjunction with an all-day EV display and show-and-tell, part of the August 11 Salt Spring Island Eco-Living and Home Tour, which runs from 10 am to 4 pm and includes about ten sites in total. The Eco-tour is a fundraiser for the Earth Festival Society. Admission to the ArtSpring site, and the morning Library Tour, is free.

We promise the ceremony will be brief, and electric!

We hope to see you at noon on Aug 11.
