Hi, I'm from Nanaimo and have been exploring options and studying up on EV and hybrid and PHEV technologys.  I've got a deposit down on a Tesla 3 but probably won't end up getting one since I think I'd need more of a hatchback form rather than a sedan, also by the time they'd get here the costs in Cdn. dollars will skyrocket I'm sure.

I find the lack of available EVs on the island very discouraging...any that are common in Europe and the UK still aren't here.  I'm waiting to have a look at the Hyundai Ioniqs  probably interested in either the EV version or the PHEV.  I'm told they'll arrive at the end of March.  I'd be very interested in looking at a Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV but apparently they've been promised since 2015 and still not in our markets yet!  I'd look at a Bolt but no one has one on their lots yet (although, I think they're kind of ugly and I'm not too keen on a GM)

the only EVs around Nanaimo are the soul, leaf (only a 2016 model) and a couple of the really small commuters that I wouldn't be interested in.

Also with the shortage still of charging stations on the island, I'm really leaning towards a PHEV moreso i think.

I'll be perusing the forum here for info and advice.  Thanks for the add to the membership

Len

I think you will see more coming down the pipe soon.  Depending on what your needs are you will probably find something.

The selection of EV's at motorize, your EV store includes models from Toyota, Nissan, Mitsubishi, Mercedes, Smart, Tesla, Ford, BMW, Kia, and others. Prices are coming down all the time. The Victoria Nissan dealer also stocks LEAFS new and used, so the selection on the island is great.

Thanks...I've given up on finding a Bolt anywhere on the island (seem to be all pre-sold)...I went down to my local dealer the other day and made a deal on a new 2017 Chevy Volt PHEV instead.  Only around 80km of ev range but should do for most of my driving needs.
