BC scrap it rebate | Victoria and Area | Forum

Has anyone been able to take advantage of this rebate? In 2018 it will be renewed with more $6000 incentives for new EVs as well as continuing the $3000 incentive for used EV. I'm waiting for the 2018 Leaf and will take advantage of the $6000 incentive in 2018 when I scrap my 2004 Mazda 6 or if it breaks down before then getting a used EV.

This Friday I'll be dropping off my old Elantra to claim the used car incentive. It'll be $3250 after the dealership kicks in $250, which is more than the car is worth at this point (that doesn't mean I won't miss it).
I'm a bit jealous of the 2018, but I'll have a few years enioying my new (to me) 2014 until the new model enters the used market!

Thanks for the reply Rob. Congrats on your 2014 Leaf. I might go this route as well depending on how long my current car will last. It is also not worth $3000, but I would like to get double that in 2018. I owned it since new. It has served me well over all these years and could probably run a few more years if given an overhaul. But its time to go electric. Used Leaf S seem to be about $15,000 with incentive but I hope to get 2018 Leaf S for $31,000 with all incentives, taxes and fees applied. Hopefully max range will be 250km - 300km. Used EVs are a good choice as well given I only drive around Victoria 98% of the time. I noticed a few 2014 in inventory but expect as more leases expire more inventory to be available. Kia Soul EV and eGolf are both considerations too.

There were quite a few rumours about the 2018 Leaf over the last month, so I had to avoid them while looking at 2014/2013s. Sounds like it should have some nice upgrades, but I needed to keep my feet planted for an older one for now!
I did look at the Leaf when it came to BC a few years ago, but the used ones coming off lease are a great deal now. There's only two things I wish I had on the S model; cruise control and leather seats. And I'd pick the QC port over both of this, which I did.
As far as charging goes, I've had no issues and the trickle charger has worked great for daily use. When I take my next trip to the interior, I'll see how the fast charging works out.
I actually didnt look at any EVs besides the Leaf, but I have seen a few of the Souls kicking around on the road.
Last Friday I did drop off the Elantra at Schnitzer Steel, which was pretty quick and painless (other than knowing the flattened future state of my car). After finishing the paperwork online, I just need to wait for thr cheque in the mail.

The BC Scrap it website says the program is not offering any more incentives for 2017. Those wanting the incentive will have to wait to see if the new NDP government will want to top up the plan with more money. This will likely happen in the BC budget that comes into affect in the Spring of 2018 but there are no guarantees.

I believe that the CEV and ScrapIt programs will be renewed by the current government. "Later this year, B.C. will be eligible for $162 million in federal funding to help it meet its climate change objectives." as per https://www.biv.com/article/2017/6/how-will-bc-ndp-spend-federal-low-carbon-funding/. They should incentivize the transition to electric mobility as much as possible. Some of the money should be spent on level 3 charging network as well. I'm looking forward to 2018 and Nissan Leaf.

In response to an email query on the Ownership policy to Scrap It - I received the following reply on Oct 10th
The 2017 EV program has closed as we successfully granted all 500 incentives to our customers. 2018 EV Program will be coming back beginning to mid-January but will no exact release date yet. The terms and policies will most likely be modified so unfortunately will have to wait closer to January to find out what’s changed.
I'm planning to buy a new EV in the early part of 2018. Right now Bolt, 2018 Leaf, 2017 VW e-Golf or 2018 Soul EV are in the running.
I am waiting to get more information on the 2018 model year of the Soul EV
